Executive Director Nursing

LOCATION: South Bend, IN

DESCRIPTION: This position will report within a matrix organizational structure. Responsible for the overall management and coordination of functions within a division of Nursing. The Executive Director of Womens and Childrens Services holds the accountability to manage within the context of the organization as a whole, and to transform organizational values into daily operations yielding an efficient, effective and caring organization. This includes management of designated clinical nursing practice and management of programs, systems, and services that are evidence based and support the clinical practice of nursing. Responsibilities are accomplished based on Organizations vision, mission, and values. Responsible to develop, implement, maintain, and evaluate policies, programs, and services related to assigned functions. Participates in assessing the environment, forecasting trends, transmitting values, communicating ideas, coaching and mentoring others, managing resources, and assuring that core values are implemented. Works collaboratively with colleagues from within Organization. Actively participates in the leadership/partnership team composed of operation administrators and physicians.

EXPERIENCE: Minimum of three years in nursing service administration with line management responsibilities. Must have a current RN license in the State of Indiana.

Develops strategic and operational plans by:
Develop and coordinate a collaborative leadership model where hospital based physician providers, outpatient office practice providers, clinical/nursing providers and community services work together for strategy and planning of children's services.
Assisting in the development of a structure and framework that integrates physicians into decision making with the service line(s) and significantly involves them in strategic planning and budgeting.
Developing and implementing a strategic and operational plan for the service line(s). At a minimum, the plan should address: mission, medical staff development issues, social accountability, access, quality improvement, financial performance, market assessment and analysis, human resources and information management.
Identifying and developing an overall leadership structure and team for the service line(s).
Developing outreach programs and relationships to increase patient referrals in all service areas.
Provides leadership and builds collaborative relationships by:
Communicating and relating effectively with all types and levels of people inside and outside the organization; also demonstrating respect for all and building trust.
Mentoring and evaluating staff performance honestly, fairly and in a timely manner, with emphasis on specific developmental plans for performance improvement and individual employee development.
Confronting conflict directly and leading by example to promote an environment in the department(s) and organization that allows for fairness, equity and cooperation.
Sponsoring Organizations values through personal leadership and example, incorporating those values into the daily work of the division.
Participating in public relations and Organizations Foundation projects, activities and events.

Directing quality initiatives, planning implementation and completing evaluations of indicators and results.
Utilizing and ensuring continuous quality improvement philosophies, techniques and tools in all aspects of the position that are consistent with the Hospital's collaborative QI plan.
Achieving financial and market share targets, in concert with the strategic plan.
Exploring creative alternative care settings to achieve highest possible quality and lowest possible cost (best value) with appropriate utilization, case management and emphasis on prevention.
Ensuring compliance with all regulating body requirements and standards for areas of responsibility.

Adheres to the Standards of Practice for Nursing Administration within the Department of Nursing and administrative partnerships:
Collects comprehensive data pertinent to the issues, situation or trends.
Analyzes assessment data to determine the issues, problems, or trends.
Identifies expected outcomes for a plan individualized to the situation.
Develops a plan that prescribes evidence-based strategies and alternative(s) to attain expected outcomes.
Implements the identified plan: Coordinates the implementation and other association processes; employs strategies to foster health promotion, health teaching, and the profession of other educational services and resources.
Provides consultation to influence the identified plan, enhance the abilities of others, and effect change.
Evaluates progress towards attainment of outcomes.

Performs other functions to maintain personal competence and contribute to the overall effectiveness of the service line by:
Completing other job-related assignments and special projects as directed.

Associate complies with the following organizational requirements:
Attends and participates in department meetings and is accountable for all information shared.
Completes mandatory education, annual competencies and department specific education within established timeframes.
Completes annual employee health requirements within established timeframes.
Maintains license/certification, registration in good standing throughout fiscal year.
Direct patient care providers are required to maintain current BCLS (CPR) and other certifications as required by position/department.
Consistently utilizes appropriate universal precautions, protective equipment, and ergonomic techniques to protect patient and self.
Adheres to regulatory agency requirements, survey process and compliance.
Complies with established organization and department policies.
Available to work overtime in addition to working additional or other shifts and schedules when required.

EDUCATION: Must have a Bachelor's degree in Nursing with a Master's degree in business or a health-related field. If Masters degree is not in Nursing, must have a Bachelor or Doctoral degree in Nursing.
