REGISTERED NURSE (MED/SURG 4 EAST)
The Staff Nurse provides direct and indirect nursing care to patients and families in a nursing care unit/area. He/she adheres to established policies standards of care and standards of practice. The incumbent reports directly to the Nurse Manager of the patient care unit/area. The staff nurse functions as team leader progressively assuming charge nurse responsibilities as assigned under the supervision of the Nurse Manager or designee.
The medical-surgical/telemetry nurse is responsible for providing comprehensive nursing care to medical-surgical/telemetry patients in the delivery of inpatient care. The area requires the nurse to provide treatment utilizing nursing processes, according to the written procedures and policies of the medical-surgical/telemetry unit.Duties include documenting observations, assessments, and changes in patient's condition; collaborating with health team members to facilitate positive patient care outcomes; providing a full range of nursing care to patients with a variety of physical and/or behavior problems; and accountable for meeting and maintaining the qualification standards and functional statements of assigned grade. The nurse must ``possess good organizational skills which enable completion of work, a demonstrated ability to assume leadership in a patient centered program, and the ability to establish effective communication with patients, families, visitors and members of the interdisciplinary team.

Work Schedule:Tours of duty will be rotation of3:30p-12am, 12am-8:30a, and weekends with 8 hour tours.

- Full unrestricted Licensure, Certification, or Registration required
- Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. Students should submit the certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX to the VA along with a copy of the MSN transcript. (Reference VA Handbook 5005, Appendix G6)
- Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia.
Education/Experience Requirements: He/she has an Associate Degree or Diploma and approximately two to three years of successful nursing practice or has a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) with two to three years of successful nursing practice; or a master's degree in nursing with one to two years of successful nursing practice; or a master's degree in a field related to nursing and a BSN from an accredited or state approved school of nursing with one to two years of successful nursing practice; or a doctoral degree in nursing or related field. He/she has the physical and mental capability to satisfactorily perform assigned duties. Maintaining a current BLS and ACLS certification is required from the American Heart Association.
Preferred Experience/Education: Telemetry certification is preferred.

Physical Requirements:?, The physical requirements of this position include lifting, prolonged standing and sitting, frequent bending, walking (distance), climbing (steps, ladder, etc), reaching (overhead, extensive/repetitive), repetitive motion and stooping. The mental/sensory requirements include recall, reasoning, problem-solving, hearing, speaking clearly, writing legibly, keyboarding, reading and logical thinking. The environment's pace can vary from steady to a sometimes fast pace requiring handling of multiple priorities, frequent, sometimes intense customer interactions, and the ability to adapt to frequent changes in a sometimes noisy environment. There may be the need to use personal protective equipment to prevent exposure to disease, illness and hazardous materials.
