Job Description

Job Summary: Responsible for assisting the Medical Director (physician) and Nursing Director in all clinical aspects of the practice and ambulatory surgical center. Sets up surgical suites. Prepares patients for consultation, examination and surgery as applicable by taking patients medical history, educating them on their procedure(s) and alternative treatment options; answers/addresses questions or concerns in order to make a smooth, efficient transition for the physician to come in and begin the exam/procedure. Assists in a very hands-on fashion during surgery. Counsels patients post-operatively on detailed wound-care, infection prevention and what to expect during the healing process. Participates in a rotational schedule to document and return calls to patients with post-operative concerns/complications and may place calls to inform patients of their pathology results. Able to work in a fast paced environment while maintaining the highest quality of patient care.

Daily Responsibilities:

  1. Sets up surgical suites for surgical procedures at the start of each day

  2. Assists physician in surgical procedures:

  3. Performing suction & cautery as needed

  4. Entering pertinent clinical information into the patients electronic medical record

  5. Prepares and prints prescriptions to be signed by the physician

  6. Calls in prescriptions to pharmacies as directed by the physician

  7. Turns over surgical suites by removing sharps, cleaning and setting up for the next patient

  8. Assists with maintaining cleaning logs by OSHA or AAAHC regulations in each examination room

  9. Assists Nursing Director with maintaining temperature/humidity logs in the ASC

  10. Assists with cleaning and sterilizing all surgical instruments

  11. Assists in daily and monthly terminal cleaning of the surgical rooms

  12. Ensures that all exam rooms are fully stocked at the end of every day

  13. Prepares patient surgery paperwork for the next business day

  14. Draws up anesthesia at the beginning of each day

  15. Completes Surgery Templates as assigned

  16. Ensures that surgical packs are ready for the start of surgeries on the next day of business

Other Responsibilities:

  1. Works under the responsibility of the Nursing Director

  2. Assists Nursing Director with managing inventory and ordering of supplies for proper function of the practice

  3. Assists Nursing Director with maintaining monthly Quality Assurance/Quality Improvement audits

  4. Assists Nursing Director in Quality Study design and implementation

  5. Responsible for maintaining an adequate stock of sterile supplies

  6. Helps to monitor and report when equipment needs servicing or maintenance

  7. Manages pathology lab record in the EMR

  8. Proficient in use of all office equipment (phone system, printers, copy machine, fax, scanner, etc.)

  9. Ability to provide back-up to BMSC nursing director

  10. Be a role model and resource for the medical assistants

  11. Participates in staff training and weekly lectures

  12. Any other responsibilities or duties deemed as necessary for proper functioning of the practice

Company Description

We are a referral based Dermatologic Surgery Practice that specializes in the Mohs Micrographic Surgery. This surgery involves a repeated series of surgical excisions followed by microscopic examination of the tissue to assess if any tumor cells remain. Once the skin cancer has been removed from a patient, there is the reconstructive surgery that immediately follows. The Practice has two locations, Alpharetta and Buckhead. This position will work out of both locations.
