Registered Nurse - 7A (Part-Time)
7A is a medical/surgical units where care is provided to adult male/female patients, who are preparing for or have had a surgical interventions for brain tumors, prostate and bladder cancer, coronary disease or peripheral vascular disease. The average length of stay for patients is between three and ten days. Registered Nurses partner with Nursing Assistants to provide patient and family centered care in collaboration with an interdisciplinary team of clinicians, who support patients and families in decision-making. The interdisciplinary needs of patients and families are met through collaboration with ancillary services to include Pharmacy, Laboratory, Dietary, Social Work, Chaplin, and Radiology. Specialty Care and services are available through consultation and are utilized as needed to ensure continuity and progression of care. Discharge planning and patient/family education is initiated on admission and continues throughout hospitalization. Interdisciplinary treatment/discharge planning meetings are conducted on Monday and Tuesday mornings. Nurses are competent in the management of patients requiring use of intravenous and enteral infusion pumps, PCA pumps, intermittent pulse oximetry monitoring, and blood glucose monitoring, Narcotics are stored in an automated medication-dispensing machine (PYXIS).

1. Oncology conditions.
2. Coronary disease.
3. Peripheral Vascular disease.
Work Schedule: 8?,hours shift, various tours day/ evening/ or nights, weekend rotations.

- Full unrestricted Licensure, Certification, or Registration required.
- Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing.
- The completion of course work equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. Students should submit the certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX to the VA along with a copy of the MSN transcript. (Reference VA Handbook 5005, Appendix G6)
- Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia.

Minimum of 2 years successful nursing experience
Current Medical-surgical nursing experience.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with patients, families and the other members of the interdisciplinary team.
Demonstrated skills in decision-making, sound clinical judgment and critical-thinking abilities.
Demonstrated ability to use computer systems in support of patient care delivery.
ANCCCertification in Medical Surgical Nursing.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The position includes physical exertion such as regular and recurring walking, stooping, bending, reaching and lifting of equipment and supplies, and hand-eye coordination to perform visual field evaluations. It may require frequent periods of walking throughout the facility to interface with other services, bending, stooping, lifting, and carrying. The incumbent is exposed to CRT/PC screen radiation sometimes for long periods of time.
