Overview

Under supervision, to perform work providing primary care nursing services to patients within the scope of their license to practice in the State of Indiana in a physician office practice setting.

Responsibilities

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES(*Essential Functions)
  • Identifies and evaluates patient needs by way of telephone triage.
  • Rooms patients, takes vitals and documents findings in charts.
  • Interviews patients, takes medical history, completes lab and x-ray requests, keeps charts current.
  • Assists provider with patient examination and related procedures.
  • Administers prescribed medications and simple treatments as directed by physician or mid-level provider.
  • Maintains clinical supply inventory, stocks and keeps rooms cleaned.
  • Provides educational materials to patients and/or caregivers by communicating effectively.
  • Performs point of care testing if applicable.
  • Provides lab, x-ray and other reports to practitioner for review, notifies patients of normal lab results as directed by practitioner.
  • Considers special needs of different age groups when providing care.
  • Sets priorities of care based on acuity of patients.
  • Pre-certifies procedures with insurance companies.
  • Serves as a resource to Medical Assistants in the office.

    JOB SPECIFICATIONS(Minimum Requirements)

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

    • Demonstrated knowledge, ability and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the adolescent, young adult, middle adult and geriatric patient served within the service line.
    • Demonstrated knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span.
    • Ability to update and maintain current knowledge based through continuing education.
    • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.

    EDUCATION

    • Graduation from a recognized college or university as a licensed practical nurse.
    • High School Diploma/GED Equivalent General Studies Required
    • Certificate Nursing Required
    • Two (2) years of responsible work experience as a Licensed Practical Nurse is preferred, preferably in a physician office or clinic setting.
    • 2 Healthcare/Medical � LPN Preferred
    • Licensed Practical Nurse
    • Certified Basic Life Support
