GS-07 grade level: One year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-06 grade level in the federal service); experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA's) and other characteristics to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled, in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience includes:
1) Prepares, organizes, and maintains complex surgical sterile setups such as but not limited to: open heart, total joint arthroplasties, craniotomies and concurrent procedures with multiple surgical specialties
2) Sets up the sterile field with required surgical instrumentation, medical equipment, surgical drapes, and sterile supplies for types of surgical procedures to include: air powered equipment, fiber optic, laparoscopic, minimally invasive instrumentation, and equipment.
3) Inspects and performs all recommended tests to assure that the equipment meets operational, sterilization and/or cleanliness requirements.
4) Identifies, assembles, handles, manages and operates specialized complex medical equipment such as microscopes, LASERS, PHACO-emulsifier machine, robot, specialized surgical tables and positioning devices.
5) Communicates and collaborates with members of the surgical team to include the perioperative registered nurse, staff surgeon, surgical residents, anesthesia providers and other ancillary staff to achieve positive patient outcomes.

There is no educational substitution for the GS-07 level.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
