Position Description
Intravenous Therapy Nurses practice within the boundaries of their legal scope of practice. Infusion therapy tasks are delegated by the registered nurse in accordance with rules and regulations promulgated by the state’s Board of Nursing and within the policies and procedures of the organization. Competent in infusion therapy, use, maintenance and removal as well as vascular access device management and surveillance. Monitors patients for associated side effects, initiates appropriate measures as indicated, and utilizes skills associated with vascular access devices. Applies the nursing process to assess and care for adolescent and adult patients receiving infusion therapy. Provides care to minimize or alleviate symptoms associated with vascular access devices. Collaborates with other members of the healthcare team to achieve the goal of safe, effective and appropriate infusion therapy. Assists Supervisor/Manager/Director in developing and monitoring the Department Quality Improvement Plan and Departmental Policies and Procedures. Adheres to professional requirements and recommended standards of practice of professional organizations such as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Infusion Nurses Society (INS) and Association of Vascular Access (AVA). Demonstrates an in-depth understanding and application of IV infusion equipment. Use critical thinking and nursing judgment in the assessment and care of the patient receiving Infusion therapy. Responsible for inserting short peripheral catheters, monitoring all vascular access devices, including daily assessment, dressing change, maintaining all central lines, de-clotting all central lines and accessing and de-accessing implanted ports. Assists in decreasing CLABSI (central line associated bloodstream infections) Is a resource for infusion therapy, education, and standardized evidence-based practices.

Position Requirements
REQUIRED: 1. Must be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing and licensed as a RN in the State of Georgia in good standing without limitations. 2. Minimum of 2 years of full-time experience as a RN post-orientation or post-residency training. 3. National Certification in Clinical Specialty (CRNI or VA-BC) required within 2.5 years, (30 months) of date in job. a. Certified Registered Nurse Infusion (CRNI) through the Infusion Nurses Certification Corporation http://www.ins1.org/ b. Vascular Access Board Certified (VA-BC) through the Vascular Access Certification       Corporation (VACC) http://www.vacert.org/ 4. Certified in American Heart Association’s Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) for provider, CPR and AED program.
