Legacy Salmon Creek Medical Center is Southwest Washington’s most modern hospital, offering the latest technology in a setting designed for comfort and care for the whole family. Salmon Creek Medical Center Family Birth Center is located on the Fourth floor, (excluding the NICU B Wing); and Fifth floor A Wing. SCFBC information: 

  • Approximately 280-300 deliveries per month
  • Care provided to low risk and high-risk patients
  • Level III NICU and resuscitation team in house
  • In-house anesthesia coverage and OB hospitalists
  • 3 Operating Rooms; 3 PACU; 4 triage rooms; 18 labor and delivery beds; 24 postpartum beds
  • Postpartum Care Clinic follow-up after discharge
  • Designated Baby Friendly Facility
  • Inpatient and outpatient lactation services

The nursing staff of the Family Birth Centers, in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team, strive to: a. Collaborate with the patient, and/or SO/family to develop specific goals that meet the individual’s needs, promote optimal outcomes, and prepare the patient for discharge from hospital. b. Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to coordinate patient care. The multidisciplinary team includes, but is not limited to: L.I.P.s, lactation consultants, childbirth educators, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, dietitians, clinical resource coordinators, chaplains and other ancillary personnel, as needed, to work toward common identified patient care goals. c. Support patient and family experiencing loss. d. Promote cohesive teamwork and efficient, effective communication between health care team members.

 e. Achieve appropriate use of resources to enhance desired patient outcomes while managing patient care costs. f. Provide opportunities for professional growth and development, recognition and personal satisfaction. g. Participate in a shared governance model to address unit specific issues and needs.

Responsibilities

Responsible for patient care within an assigned department/unit and participates as a member of the health care team in cooperation with and under the direction of the clinical manager or designee as defined by the relevant Standards and Scope of Practice for the Registered Nurse. The RN Staff Nurse assesses, analyzes, plans, implements and evaluates patient care following established patient care standards for Legacy Health System including those for patient assessment and transfer.

Qualifications

Education:

As required by licensure.  BSN or degree in progress strongly preferred. BSN may be required for specific assignments; experienced RNs without a BSN may be hired based on clinical experience with approval of the site CNO.

Experience:

One-year registered nursing experience or completion of either the Legacy Health RN Residency program or a nursing program that is equivalent in content, curriculum and duration. Additional clinical experience requirements may vary dependent upon the specific department in which the position is utilized.

Skills:

Demonstrated ability of positive interpersonal and communication skills with colleagues, patients, families, physicians and the community. Keyboard skills and ability to navigate electronic systems applicable to job functions.
