Overview
The Nurse Manager oversees all daily operational activities, including departmental planning related to staffing, scheduling, and budget; ensuring appropriate systems and processes for the efficient delivery of care; and ensuring safe/high quality care and an outstanding experience for patients and their families. This leadership role assumes 24/7 responsibility for all department functions, including maintaining effective interprofessional communication and a positive work environment that supports and embraces the principles of shared governance. The manager ensures that staff are educated and competent to care for the patients under their care, and works effectively with physicians, peers and other Legacy leadership to meet the strategic objectives of Legacy. Legacy Meridian Park Medical Center is the South Metro area’s full-service medical center, with the friendly feel of a community hospital and the skill and services of a much larger medical center. Among our specialties: stroke, chest pain, minimally invasive and robotic surgery, cancer care and orthopedic and total joint surgery. Plus a birth center and breast health center. The Surgical Specialties Unit is located on the third floor, units 3A, 3B, & 3C of Legacy Meridian Park Medical Center. Number of beds: 39 beds, all private. Groups served:1) Adult and geriatric patients2) Pediatric patients = 15 years of age and = 40 kg.e. Patient classification: The Surgical Specialties Unit provides inpatient, observation, and outpatient levels of care.f. Primary patient population/diagnoses:1) Surgical diagnoses, including, but not limited to:a) Breastb) Burn injuriesc) Colorectald) EENTe) General surgery, including minimally invasive proceduresf) Gynecologicg) Neurosurgeryh) Ophthalmologyi) Orthopedic including geriatric, medical management of patients with hip fractures, total jointsj) Plastics and reconstructionk) Podiatryl) Urologym) Vascular Responsibilities
Education: An academic degree in nursing is required (BSN or MSN/MN); master’s degree required, MSN/MN preferred. Internal candidates promoting from Assistant Nurse Manager may meet the master’s degree requirement with verification of a master’s degree in progress with an expected completion date within 2 years of the promotion date; progress will be reported periodically to the site CNO. Experience: Two years of leadership practice experience required. Demonstrated growth in leadership responsibilities and breadth desired. Previous clinical experience specific to the appropriate area of specialty practice is highly desirable.
Skills: Demonstrated knowledge of clinical operations, including staffing and scheduling, budget management, workflow planning, staff development, quality, safety and patient experience management. Excellent communication (verbal and written) and leadership skills, and a willingness to lead by example. Keyboard skills and ability to navigate electronic systems applicable to job functions are essential.
