Currently enrolled in an baccalaureate RN nursing program from a school accredited through either the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) of the American Association of College of Nursing (AACN).
Will have completed the final semester or quarter of the junior year of school by the start of the VALOR program, which will be near the summer (May).
GPA of 3.0 or higher (transcript required)
Submit a letter from the Dean/Director of the school of nursing to the Nurse Executive of the VA Central California Health Care System. The letter should include a nomination of the student to the program, verification of enrollment as a full-time student (as defined by the school), successful completion of the junior year by May/June 2021 (or its equivalent for rotating time off school schedules), and anticipated graduation date within one year after entry into the Nursing VALOR program.
1-2 page essay, double spaced, explaining:
- -Why you want to be a nurse
- -Why you want to work for the VA
- -Rank which area(s) you would prefer to work - ex. Intensive Care Unit; Medical/Surgical/Telemetry Unit; Emergency Department; Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU); Operating Room or Inpatient Psychiatry Unit.
