The primary focus of a CVICU is to provide comprehensive and specialized care for children who require advanced monitoring, interventions, and treatments to support their cardiac and vascular systems. This may include patients who have undergone cardiac surgery, have congenital heart defects, arrhythmias, or other complex cardiac conditions. The CVICU provides a range of advanced medical technologies and equipment to support the complex needs of these patients, including specialized ventilators, cardiac monitors, extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), and other life-sustaining devices.
Requirements
- Healthcare professionals working in a CVICU may be required to have certification in their area of expertise. Pediatric cardiologists, for example, may be certified by the American Board of Pediatrics in pediatric cardiology, and registered nurses may be certified by the Pediatric Nursing Certification Board.
