Goal and Learning Outcomes

The goal of this educational program is to provide nurses and emergency services professionals in acute care, urgent care, and prehospital emergency care settings with information on illnesses transmitted by animals. After taking this course, you should be able to:
  • Describe the lifecycle of Toxoplasma gondii and Toxocara canis.
  • Explain the modes of transmission for the zoonoses Bartonella henselaeT. gondiiT. canisPasteurella multocidaChlamydophila psittaciSalmonella, and rabies.
  • Discuss measures to prevent infections transmitted by companion animals.
  • Discuss measures to prevent the spread of zoonotic respiratory coronaviruses.
