Goal and Learning Outcomes

The goal of this educational program is to provide nurses in all settings with the goal of reviewing the effects of stress and emotions on the immune system.After taking this course, you should be able to:
  • Describe two forms of stress and how they affect the body.
  • Describe at least three brain regions involved in mediating emotions and the behaviors associated with stress.
  • Identify at least three neurotransmitters and hormones that are activated during times of duress.
  • Discuss the normal function of the immune system and the ways that stress affects it.

  • List at least four immune components produced during acute inflammation.
  • Discuss the manner by which chronic inflammation can result in both mood and immune disorders.
  • Outline steps healthcare workers can take to promote good immunity.
