Goal and Learning Outcomes

The goal of this continuing education program is to provide nurses with an understanding of how and why Lean is becoming more popular in healthcare as a quality improvement practice. After studying the information presented here, you will be able to:
  • Discuss the history and philosophy of Lean
  • Define the concepts of ideal, observation, waste, and the four rules for a Lean process
  • Discuss the importance of studying work processes as they actually occur rather than as they are thought to occur

Faith M. Jones, MSN, RN, NEA-BC, has disclosed that she is director of care coordination and Lean consulting at HealthTechS3 and provides consulting services to help hospitals create a Lean culture.
