Goal and Learning Outcomes

The goal of this continuing education course is to provide nurses, physical therapists, and physicians with an overview of the most troublesome antibiotic-resistant bacteria in hospitals. After studying the information presented here, you will be able to:
  • Discuss the six antibiotic-resistant ESKAPE pathogens and explain their importance as causes of hospital-acquired infections.
  • Describe how each of the ESKAPE pathogens can be transmitted to patients.
  • Discuss the use and misuse of antibiotics in the United States.
