Goal and Learning Outcomes

The goal of this continuing education program is to provide nurses, athletic trainers, audiologists, dietitians, fitness professionals, physical therapists, occupational therapists, vocational therapists, and speech-language pathologists with information about the acute phase of SCI. After studying the information presented here, you will be able to:
  • Describe basic spinal cord anatomy and common mechanisms of SCI.
  • Identify changes in bodily functions after SCI.
  • Discuss 13 high-risk nursing diagnoses that affect people with SCI in the acute phase of treatment.
