The goal of this course is to educate healthcare professionals on how to manage psychiatric emergencies in the ED.

This course provides healthcare professionals with the knowledge and skills to manage psychiatric emergencies effectively in the emergency department. Participants will learn to recognize clinical indications of psychiatric crises, develop evidence-based treatment plans, and implement safety interventions. Emphasis is placed on medication use, communication strategies, and engaging patients and families in care to improve outcomes and prevent adverse events.

After taking this course, you should be able to:

  • Recognize signs, symptoms, and presentations of common and critical psychiatric emergencies.
  • Recall evidence-based standards for assessing and managing psychiatric emergencies, including treatment plan creation, medication use, and disposition.
