Goal and Learning Outcomes

The goal of this course is to inform nurses about illnesses caused by Cryptosporidium, Giardia, and Pseudomonas as well as the preventive measures that can lessen the risk of transmission. 
After taking this course, you should be able to:
  • Discuss two common parasites generally responsible for diarrheal illnesses associated with swimming pools and water parks.
  • Explain why it is more difficult to eradicate Cryptosporidium than Giardia from swimming pools.
  • Discuss the common bacteria responsible for the skin rash associated with hot tubs/spas and swimming pools.
  • Explain at least three recommendations from the CDC to help decrease recreational water illnesses.
