Overview
The goal of this course is to educate nursing professionals in the acute care setting about hospice and palliative care.
Goals and Outcomes
Goals and Learning Outcomes

The use of hospice and palliative care services continues to grow in the U.S. However, confusion about what the programs offer remains. This educational activity compares services and reimbursement for hospice and palliative care programs. Nurses should be knowledgeable so they can answer questions and discuss specific options with patients as well as make appropriate referrals based on patient and family goals of care.

After taking this course, you should be able to:

  • Define hospice and palliative care and describe three benefits each provides.
  • Identify patients who may be eligible for referral to hospice or palliative care.
  • Summarize the most common issues that may delay or prevent referrals to palliative and hospice care.
