Are you prepared to provide nutritional care for an adolescent who follows a vegetarian, vegan, or plant-based diet? Scientific evidence suggests a positive relationship between plant-based eating patterns and reduced risk of disease. Strict forms of vegan diets, however, may exclude important nutrients and not meet the energy or protein needs of adolescents. The food choices of teens often rely on highly processed, convenience food options, which may not promote overall health. Learn how to ensure that the diet of teens who follow a vegetarian, vegan, or plant-based eating plan will be nutritionally sound.
The goal of this course is to provide healthcare providers in all settings with an update on the nutritional concerns of teens who follow a vegetarian, vegan, or plant-based diet and how to ensure that these diets are nutritionally adequate.
