This course provides the healthcare team with an overview of multidrug-resistant (MDR) UTIs.Goals and Learning Outcomes
This course will discuss a brief review of the diagnosis of UTIs and a detailed review of available oral antimicrobials and treatment strategies for multidrug-resistant (MDR) UTIs.
The goal of this course is to educate the healthcare team in all types of healthcare settings on MDR UTIs.
- Recall general UTI symptoms, diagnosis, classification, and appropriate urine sample collection methods.
- Identify oral antibiotics that are active against extended-spectrum ß-lactamase (ESBL)-producing Enterobacteriaceae (EPE), AmpC ß-lactamase-producing bacteria, and vancomycin-resistant enterococci (VRE).
- Determine a patient-specific antibiotic regimen that limits adverse effects.
