Goal and Learning Outcomes

The goal of this course is to provide nurses, lab professionals, nurse practitioners, and physicians with the information needed for the prompt identification and isolation of suspected MERS-CoV-infected patients to prevent the spread of infection in healthcare facilities. After studying the information presented, you will be able to:
  • Explain MERS-CoV infections and how they are transmitted to humans.
  • Describe symptoms, complications, and diagnosis of patients with MERS-CoV infections.
  • Provide recommendations for preventing the transmission of MERS-CoV in hospitals.
  • Discuss how members of the interprofessional healthcare team can stem the spread of MERS-CoV in the acute care setting, both individually and collectively.
