Overview

This program addresses the lack of awareness of methamphetamine associated pulmonary arterial hypertension (METH-PAH), including its epidemiology, clinical characteristics, and known pathophysiology; improving early detection, screening, and diagnosis of METH-PAH; and integrating approaches to the treatment of METH-PAH that seek to address both the PAH and underlying substance use disorder.

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be better able to:

  • Describe the epidemiology and clinical characteristics of methamphetamine-associated pulmonary arterial hypertension (MA-PAH)
  • Explain the current understanding of the pathophysiological mechanisms linking methamphetamine use to PAH development
  • Identify key screening and diagnostic approaches for early detection of PAH in methamphetamine users
  • Summarize a comprehensive approach to the treatment of MA-PAH that seeks to integrate pharmacotherapy for PAH and substance use disorder management
