Goals and Learning Outcomes

Regardless of the type or cause of edema, you should have basic knowledge of managing edema. This course discusses how to identify the causes of edema and the underlying disease process leading to the edema. Having an understanding of the treatment and education needed for the management of edema is vital.


The goal of this course is to educate nurses in post-acute settings on identifying, treating, and managing edema.

 


After taking this course, you should be able to:

  • Identify three key components of the pathophysiology that leads to peripheral edema.
  • Explain key factors of the pathophysiology for pulmonary edema, cerebral edema, and lymphedema.
  • Discuss three key components of the physiology that leads to normal fluid balance in the body.
  • Describe at least three treatment interventions for peripheral edema.
