Sexuality and gender identity have received significant attention in the last few decades across the spectrum of health and human services. This course presents an overview of the LGBTQIA+ community and its history within society and healthcare systems. It offers definitions of key concepts and general implications for interprofessional practice.
The goal of this course is to provide healthcare professionals with education on LGBTQIA+ history, terminology, and practice guidelines.
- Define key terminology related to sexual orientation and gender.
- Identify at least three interprofessional practice guidelines in the care of LGBTQIA+ healthcare recipients.
- Recognize historical events and context affecting the LGBTQIA+ community.
