This course provides healthcare professionals with knowledge to address posttraumatic stress disorder in acute settings.Goals and Learning Outcomes
Patients with posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) often present in acute care settings, whether trauma is their reason for admission. This course reviews the symptoms of PTSD. It discusses how to use trauma-informed care and the therapeutic relationship to support patients. Lastly, healthcare professionals will learn how to respond to specific PTSD symptoms with practical interventions in an acute setting.
- Recognize at least three symptoms of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
- Indicate how to use trauma-informed care with patients with PTSD in acute settings.
- Identify how to address PTSD symptoms in acute settings, including the types of trauma-focused treatment available.
