Goal and Learning Outcomes

The goal of this course is to inform certified diabetes care and education specialists (CDCES), health educators, nurses, and dietetics professionals in acute care with knowledge about insulin-resistance/metabolic syndrome. After taking this course, you should be able to:
  • Define metabolic syndrome as it relates to insulin’s normal mechanism of action.
  • Discuss the relationship of type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease to metabolic syndrome.
  • Discuss current practice guidelines used in the prevention and management of type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease as they relate to insulin resistance/metabolic syndrome.
