Goal and Learning Outcomes

The goal of this continuing education program is to update nurses’ knowledge about the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of patients with TB and multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDRTB); hepatitis A, B, and C; and HIV/AIDS; and to review basic principles of prevention and infection control. After studying the information presented here, you will be able to:
  • Describe the precautions and isolation practices used in caring for patients with infectious disease, as well as the rationale behind these procedures
  • Summarize the disease processes in TB and MDRTB; hepatitis A, B, and C; and HIV/AIDS
  • Describe how TB and MDRTB; hepatitis A, B, and C; and HIV/AIDS spread, and describe strategies for preventing transmission
  • Identify risk factors for TB and MDRTB; hepatitis A, B, and C; and HIV/AIDS
  • Identify methods to assess patients with TB and MDRTB; hepatitis A, B, and C; and HIV/AIDS
  • Identify appropriate treatment and follow-up measures for TB and MDRTB; hepatitis A, B, and C; and HIV/AIDS
