Goal and Learning Outcomes

The goal of this course is to educate nurses, physicians, social workers, and psychologists on how to identify and report child abuse and mistreatment. After taking this course, you should be able to:
  • Explain how physical abuse, psychological abuse, sexual abuse, and neglect are defined and indicators of each.
  • Recall risk and protective factors associated with both perpetrators and victims of child abuse.
  • Describe the reporting requirements for mandated reporters in the state of New York.
  • Define a mandated reporter and “reasonable cause to suspect” child abuse.
