Goals and Learning Outcomes

According to statistics and projections, the need for nurses who are skilled at providing care to patients in their homes is growing. Registered nurse (RN) employment is projected to grow 6% from 2021 to 2031 (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2022). Home health nurse jobs are in demand, with a projected growth of 12% from 2018 to 2028 (Zippia, 2023). This is a good time to consider a career in home health nursing. This course provides nurses with information about home health nursing practice to help determine if home health nursing is a good career choice for them. The rewards, challenges, required skills, regulations, and agency types of home health nursing are reviewed.

The goal of this course is to teach nursing professionals in acute care about transitioning from hospital to home health nursing.

After taking this course, you should be able to:

  • Recognize the opportunities, rewards, and challenges found in home health nursing.
  • Describe regulations and policies that affect nurses working for Medicare-certified home health agencies.
  • Explain the skills nurses need to be successful in home health nursing.
