      • Define the differences between palliative and hospice care, goals for advance care planning, and the process for coordinating patient care with other healthcare providers.

      • Indicate the advantages of the interdisciplinary group model, referral sources, and the different settings for the dying patient.

    1. The goal of this course is to equip nurses in hospice and palliative care to assess pain and implement non-pharmacological interventions.

      • Define at least three forms of pain and their etiologies.

    1. The goal of this course is to equip nurses in hospice and palliative care for pharmacological pain management and to be prepared for the Certified Hospice and Palliative Nurse exam.

      After taking this course, you should be able to:
      • Recognize principles of pharmacological pain management in palliative care and how to determine efficacy.

    1. The goal of this course is to provide nurses in hospice and palliative care with knowledge of life-limiting conditions and symptom management.

      After taking this course, you should be able to:
      • Recognize the role and challenges of palliative care in the trajectories of serious, noncancer illnesses.
      • Describe signs and symptoms of advanced neurological, cardiovascular, and pulmonary conditions, as well as available treatments throughout the illness trajectories.
      • Identify common palliative interventions for neurological, cardiovascular, and respiratory symptoms.

  • CHPN: Symptom Management of Life-Threatening Noncancer Conditions Part 2

    1. The goal of this course is to provide nurses in hospice and palliative care with knowledge of life-limiting noncancer conditions and symptom management.

      This course is not affiliated with the Hospice and Palliative Nurses Association or the Hospice and Palliative Credentialing Center.

      After taking this course, you should be able to:
      • Describe signs and symptoms of advanced liver, kidney, and HIV diseases, as well as available treatments and palliative interventions throughout the illness trajectories.
      • Identify palliative interventions for symptoms in serious illness, including gastrointestinal genitourinary, musculoskeletal, integumentary, metabolic, hematological, and psychosocial symptoms.
      • Recall interventions for symptoms associated with imminent death.

  • CHPN: Symptom Management of Life Threatening Neoplastic Conditions

    1. This course provides an overview of cancer development, different cancer types, and treatments. Information regarding the complications that often accompany the progression of malignant disorders is also covered. The course covers paraneoplastic syndromes and oncologic emergencies associated with neoplastic conditions.
