  • Arterial & Central Venous Pressure Monitoring

    1. The goal of this module is to review the purpose and indications for invasive hemodynamic monitoring and to explore system set up, normal waveforms and measurement techniques. After studying the information presented here, the nurse will be able to:
Review the purpose and indications for invasive hemodynamic monitoring
Discuss the components of a pressure monitoring set up.
Describe the normal and abnormal arterial waveforms.
Identify the correct measurement of a central venous pressure waveform.
    2. Contact Hours: 1
  • Cardiac Assist Devices & Cardiopulmonary Bypass

    1. The goal of this module is to briefly discuss noninvasive hemodynamic monitoring, tissue oxygenation, and cardiac assist devices and their role in tissue oxygenation. After studying the information presented here, the nurse will be able to:
Discuss 3 types of noninvasive monitoring devices
Describe the physiology of oxygenation at the tissue level
Identify the role of cardiac assist devices in the perfusion of oxygenated blood
    2. Contact Hours: 1
  • Hemodynamic Monitoring: Anatomy, Physiology & Vascular Access

    1. The goal of this module is to provide an overview of cardiac and pulmonary anatomy and physiology related to basic hemodynamics, including a brief discussion on vascular access devices. After studying the information presented here, the nurse will be able to:
Identify anatomy and physiology of the heart and pulmonary system.
Describe basic hemodynamic monitoring components of cardiac output.
Describe nursing considerations for central line placement, use, and discontinuation.
    2. Contact Hours: 1
  • Pulmonary Artery Catheter & Cardiac Output

    1. The goal of this module is to provide an overview of the pulmonary artery catheter and it's role in hemodynamic monitoring. After studying the information presented here, the nurse will be able to:
Discuss the purpose and indications for use of a pulmonary artery catheter in hemodynamic monitoring
Describe the hemodynamic changes seen in common cardiac conditions
Recognize factors that influence cardiac output values
Identify cardiac output and mixed venous saturation as measurements of stability
    2. Contact Hours: 1
