Goal and Learning Outcomes

The goal of this course is to provide information for healthcare professionals about how patients evaluate their satisfaction with communication and provision of care based upon their perception of pain management. The program provides interprofessional team members with evidence-based guidance on assessing and managing pain in a way that balances concerns for pain reduction, functional improvement, and avoidance of treatment-related harm. After completion of the program, you will be able to:
  • Describe the relationship between pain management and other aspects of the patient experience.
  • Identify evidence-based pain assessment tools based on the patient’s age and ability to communicate.
  • Evaluate multimodal treatment plans with IP input for patients with complex or persistent pain.
  • Describe strategies that demonstrate to patients a commitment to communicate and manage their pain.
  • Identify roles for IP team members in supporting pain management.
