Overview
This course provides healthcare professionals in the acute care setting with information about communication and how it impacts HCAHPS scores.Goals and Learning Outcomes
Effective communication with the patient, family, and colleagues is the foundation for a therapeutic and positive patient experience. What is communicated and what the patient and family observe greatly influence the patient's experience of care. The healthcare team has a significant effect on and responsibility for patient satisfaction. When healthcare professionals recognize the factors that influence communication and consistently apply effective communication techniques, patient satisfaction and collaboration between interprofessional team members improve.
The goal of this course is to inform the healthcare team on ways to improve communication to optimize Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) ratings.
- Describe how communication influences the patient experience and Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) ratings.
- Identify strategies to improve communication with the healthcare team and patients.
- List quality improvement methods to improve communication.
