Goal and Learning Outcomes

The goal of this educational program is to provide nurses in acute care settings with a review of the assessment and treatment of patients with hand trauma. After taking this course, you should be able to:
  • Discuss common traumatic injuries and injury complications that affect the hand and wrist.
  • List the critical information that must be gathered upon admission of the patient with hand trauma.
  • Describe basic nursing care for amputations, burns, high-pressure injuries, and lacerations to the hands.
  • Explain the process to properly preserve a traumatically amputated body part.
