Overview
The goal of this course is to update nursing professionals in the acute care setting with information regarding best practices in patient education.Goals and Learning Outcomes
Effective patient education is a key to improvement of health outcomes but has limited coverage in healthcare literature. Multiple factors influence health information dissemination, starting from interprofessional communication to patient-centered communication. The nursing profession also plays a role in population health outcomes. Magnet® designation, a public recognition given to healthcare institutions that demonstrate excellence in nursing practice has as the foundation, the provision of high-quality patient care. This course has the forces of magnetism as framework to identify healthcare trends, standards, and best practices in patient education that impact professional nursing practice and patient outcomes.
The goal of this course is to update nursing professionals in the acute care setting with information regarding best practices in patient education.
- Identify how to assess a patient’s unique characteristics to individualize the education plan to the capacities and needs of the patient.
- Determine patient’s ability to comprehend and perform self-care skills to optimize health outcomes.
