This course provides healthcare professionals with an understanding of how to manage chemical weapons and radiation attacks.

Goals and Learning Outcomes
This course reviews the basics of what to do in the event of a chemical weapon attack or radiation event. Healthcare professionals in the emergency and acute care setting will learn how to recognize the signs and symptoms of injury from a chemical or radiation attack, how to decontaminate affected patients, and how to manage patients with these types of injuries. The course also covers how healthcare workers can be prepared for a chemical weapon attack or radiation incident.

After taking this course, you should be able to:

  • Recall methods for preparing for chemical or radiation incidents in the prehospital, emergency, and acute care settings.
  • Recognize the signs and symptoms of a chemical attack or radiation exposure.
  • Apply knowledge of decontamination and management of patients with chemical or radiation exposure.
  • Identify treatments for chemical and radiation injuries.
