This course provides education on ECG interpretation of sinus, atrial, and junctional rhythms and heart blocks.

Caring for patients who require electrocardiogram (ECG) monitoring involves an ability to interpret the ECG waveform and identify abnormal rhythms. This course provides an overview of the most common sinus, atrial, and junctional rhythms, as well as heart blocks. A basic review of ECG interpretation principles is also provided. This course focuses on rhythm interpretation using 6-second rhythm strips vs. 12-lead ECG interpretation, as 12-lead ECGs are covered in detail in another course of this series. The goal of this course is to provide healthcare professionals with education on ECG interpretation of sinus, atrial, and junctional rhythms and heart blocks.

After taking this course, you should be able to:

  • Recall basic principles of ECG interpretation including lead placement and how the cardiac conduction cycle translates to the ECG waveform.
  • Recognize the identifying features of different sinus and atrial rhythms on ECG.
  • Identify different types of junctional rhythms and heart blocks on ECG.
