Goals and Learning Outcomes

Proper wound care management is an important element in the care of the patient. Thoroughly assessing the patient and the wound, gathering all mitigating circumstances through a detailed medical history, and review of the current health status of the patient and their comorbidities that may affect the course of healing are essential components of care.


After taking this course, you should be able to:

  • Discuss assessments for wound evaluation and develop patient-centered care plans.
  • Explain wound care management and the psychosocial aspects of wound care.
  • Describe four types of wounds and their etiologies.
  • Recognize the causes of wound infections and describe the phases of healing.
