Goal and Learning Outcomes

The goal of this course is to update nurses in acute care settings with information about treatment of hypertension. After taking this course, you should be able to:
  • Describe the physiologic consequences of untreated hypertension.
  • Identify the parameters of hypertension and the goals of antihypertensive treatment.
  • Discuss the main classes of antihypertensive medications used in the treatment of hypertension.
  • Describe appropriate screening and referral of adults at risk for hypertension.
  • Describe lifestyle modifications that can be employed to control and decrease risk of hypertension.
