- Identify the components of Patient Safety Indicators (PSI) 90 and the importance of CDI in inpatient quality reporting.
- Discuss the Medicare severity diagnostic related group (MS-DRGs) classification.
- List five instances where documentation may require clarification.
- Describe what documentation constitutes “provider documentation."
- Identify important considerations in coding principal diagnosis, secondary diagnoses, discharge and transfer status, present on admission status, and healthcare-acquired conditions.
- Recognize the importance of ethical practice as it applies to clinical documentation integrity (CDI), federal laws associated with ethical and compliant CDI practice, and at least three initiatives that ensure diagnosis-related group (DRG) compliance.
