The goal of this course is to educate the healthcare team on nutrition practices for cardiovascular health.

Nutrition is a modifiable risk factor for the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular disease. Diets rich in plant foods and lean proteins while being low in saturated fats, sodium, and sugars have been shown to improve cardiovascular outcomes. This course will specifically discuss the role of nutrition as it relates to cardiovascular disease treatment. This course uses practical advice, reflective thinking, and review questions to improve the critical thinking and the skills needed to provide nutrition counseling for patients with cardiovascular disease. The goal of this course is to educate the healthcare team on nutrition practices for cardiovascular health. 

After taking this course, you should be able to:

  • Recognize dietary contributors and protectors of cardiovascular disease.
  • Choose appropriate medical nutrition therapies for the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular disease.
  • Identify social determinants of health that may inhibit adherence to cardiovascular disease recommendations.
