Goal and Learning Outcomes

The goal of this total joint replacement continuing education program is to provide healthcare professionals, specifically nurses and physical therapists, with information about caring for people with total hip and total knee joint replacement surgeries, including patient education aimed at preventing complications and improving outcomes. After studying the information presented here, you will be able to:
  • Identify interventions that healthcare professionals, as a team, can use to prevent complications after joint replacement surgery
  • Describe two strategies to help patients and families cope with self-care deficits, and the transition from hospital to home after a total joint replacement
  • Discuss the impact of managed care on preventing complications and supervising care for people who have had joint replacement surgery

Please note: The Orthopaedic Nurses Certification Board has designated this educational activity to receive 1.0 contact hour in Category A and 0 contact hours in Category B toward recertification.
