Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) refers to a group of neurodevelopmental disorders that manifest as a range of social communication and behavioral deficits. Although not every patient with ASD will require a change in clinical care provided, the increasing prevalence of this condition necessitates that healthcare providers be knowledgeable of the diagnostic criteria and treatment of ASD. With a practical understanding of the unique needs of this patient population, those caring for patients with ASD can offer greater support, flexibility, and patience.

After taking this course, you should be able to:

  • Identify at least four characteristics of ASD.
  • Recall at least three diagnostic criteria and screening tools for ASD.
  • List at least three interventions appropriate for patients with ASD.
