Goal and Learning Outcomes

The purpose of this seasonal affective disorder continuing education module is to provide nurses with information on seasonal affective disorder, with an emphasis on distinguishing qualifiers of depressive episodes and implications for nurses and for women. After studying the information presented here, you will be able to:
  • Describe predisposing factors and symptoms that distinguish SAD from nonseasonal depression
  • Name two underlying mechanisms in SAD and two areas of SAD research
  • Discuss evidence-based treatments with nursing implications for SAD
