This course provides an overview of the need for smoking cessation and the components of a successful smoking cessation program. The importance of working as an interprofessional team, helping patients navigate the behavioral stages of change, and utilizing smoking cessation aids are also discussed.

The goal of this smoking cessation educational program is to help the healthcare team work together to create a successful plan to help patients quit smoking.


After taking this course, you should be able to:

  • Identify the stages of behavior change that patients experience during the process of smoking cessation.
  • Select three smoking cessation approaches or aids that healthcare providers can suggest to patients.
  • Identify interprofessional healthcare team members and their roles in smoking cessation.
  • Recognize key considerations with the FDA-approved smoking cessation medications available.
