Greetings! I am honored and grateful to have been invited to join the Nurse.com community, and I look forward to being your resident nursing career expert. Following in the footsteps of the incomparable Donna Cardillo is no simple task. Donna is indeed the preeminent nursing career guru, and her endorsement of me as her replacement is one of the most cherished moments of my career.

I’ve been a nurse since 1996, and I’ve focused on public and community health, hospice, home health and case management. I’m currently the CNO of a small home care company in Albuquerque, N.M. My clinical nursing career has been a wonderful ride, and I still revel in my various roles as a nurse leader and clinician.

In 2005, I launched a blog, and I quickly found that writing from the heart about being a nurse led to a steadily growing audience of nurses hungry for authentic reflections on the life of nurses in the 21st century.

Along the way, I became aware of the power of coaching. After receiving training as a professional coach, I began offering coaching in health and wellness, burnout prevention and burnout recovery for nurses. Meanwhile, the American Holistic Nurses Credentialing Corporation initiated its groundbreaking certification for nurses who want to fully integrate their coaching and nursing skills in response to the emerging nurse coaching paradigm, and I earned my credential as a Board Certified Nurse Coach in 2013.

As a holistic career coach for nurses, I focus on both the macro and micro of nurses’ personal and professional lives. Of course, nurses need guidance in terms of the nuts and bolts of a career (resumes, cover letters, LinkedIn, professional networking and interview skills), but they also need significant support regarding the proverbial 10,000-foot view of their overall career trajectory, as well as a deeper vision of what their career actually means. Nurses may want to change specialties, launch entrepreneurial ventures, or pursue advanced education and training in the interest of their professional development. Some may need to deeply examine their underlying motivations and desires.

Providing career coaching to nurses is dear to my heart. I understand the struggles faced by nurses, and my mission is to reach thousands of nurses with the message that their career is an organic, fluid and flexible entity that can truly thrive when fed and watered with positivity, savvy and forward thinking.

This blog will offer practical advice, inspiration, education and my own personal spin on what it means to be a professional nurse in the 21st century, and how you can manifest a career that truly speaks to your nurse’s heart and soul.

I invite you to take this journey with me, and offer my heartfelt gratitude for welcoming me into this dynamic family of nurses and those who support and respect them.

Welcome Keith! I think it is refreshing to see a nurse that has leadership and entrepreneurship in nursing. I look forward to reading articles that truly impact and empower nurses that are interested in alternative nursing roles.
