Resurrection University in Chicago appointed Rebecca Zukowski, PhD, RN, as its new dean of the College of Nursing. She started her new position July 6.
Zukowski brings a 34-year nursing career focused on nursing education, nonprofit management and service. Prior to her appointment at ResU, Zukowski was the associate academic dean and chairwoman for the division of nursing at Mount Aloysius College in Cresson, Pa., according to a news release.
“I’m excited about joining the talented team of faculty and staff who are continuing to prepare nurses for increasingly complex environments using innovative and evidence-based strategies to support student learning and success at the baccalaureate and graduate levels,” Zukowski said in an email statement.
Zukowski replaces Sandie Soldwisch, PhD, APN, ANP-BC, who was dean of the college of nursing for six years and left Resurrection to take a new position in December 2014.
Zukowski is a veteran of the U.S. Navy. She holds an RN license and is certified as a project management professional. Her bibliography lists numerous publications and scholarly activities, and she has presented on clinical, managerial and educational subjects throughout the U.S.
In addition to her extensive teaching and administration experience, Zukowski has served as a senior research associate for the National Center for Disaster Medicine and Public Health. Based upon her work in the field and her own research, she was named associate editor for the scholarly journal Disaster Medicine and Public Health Preparedness.
Zukowski received her bachelor of science from Carlow College in Pittsburgh with a dual major in nursing and English, an MSN from Marquette University in Milwaukee with a specialty focus as an adult practitioner/teacher, and a PhD in administration and leadership studies from Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
