U.S. Army Col. earns AONE Mentor Award

U.S. Army Col. Laura L. Feider, PhD, RN, chief of the department of nursing science at the Army Medical Department Center and School, Joint Base San Antonio, Fort Sam Houston, Texas, earned the American Organization of Nurse Executives Mentor Award. Feider and other AONE 2015 award recipients were honored in April during the organization’s annual meeting in Phoenix.
The AONE Mentor Award recognizes a nurse in executive practice who has been exemplary in supporting the professional development of his or her colleagues by serving as a mentor or adviser.
Feider is a nurse scientist who has dedicated her career to expanding nursing science and advancing the nursing profession through mentorship and development of her colleagues, according to the release.
Under her mentorship, the Army transitioned nursing research services to the Center for Nursing Science & Clinical Inquiry at Brooke Army Medical Center to mentor all nurse scientists and advanced practice nurses. Those nurses, in turn, become mentors in research and evidence-based practice, translating evidence to the bedside. This change resulted in more than 70 evidence-based practice initiatives, 30 performance improvement initiatives and eight research studies, according to the release.
