How do I get started in travel nursing?

Dear Donna,

I would like to do travel nursing, but I don’t know how to get started.

Wants To Be a Travel Nurse

Dear Wants To Be a Travel Nurse,

Before embarking on this type of work, it’s always a good idea to speak with other nurses who are travel nurses or have worked in the field in the past several years. This will help you become familiar with the ins and outs of travel nursing to be sure it is right for you and know what questions to ask when looking for an agency with which to work. Other travel nurses can recommend good travel nurse agencies.

Find travel nurses to speak with by asking around, through social media channels such as LinkedIn and Facebook or in online nursing communities where you can post questions to other group members. Read “The scoop on informational interviewing” for advice on how to approach these conversations.

The next step would be to register with a travel nurse agency or two once you’ve gotten some recommendations and have done some research.

Here’s a short article about travel nursing you may find interesting.

Best wishes,

Donna
